The Children's Workshop will be hosting our annual Comedy 4 Our Communities fundraising event on April 1, 2024 at the Rhode Island Comedy Connection.  This event will take place on Rhode Island's 401Gives Day, which aims to strengthen Rhode Island's nonprofit community.

As our fourth TCW Workshop Way states (we play to learn)... we believe fun, laughter, and love are the essentials of being a lifelong learner - something that is not only applicable to our students; but adults alike. Every year, we host an adults-only, stand-up comedy show to provide our staff, TCW parents, industry partners, dedicated supporters and our community members a night to come together, relax, raise money for a great cause... and... belly laugh like a kid again!

All ticket sales, donations and sponsorships will directly benefit our 6 TCW schools, over 675 young students, and the communities we proudly serve. In addition to the comedy show, the night presents guests with the opportunity to take part in fun (prize winning) games, and a chance to win awesome raffle prizes!

FEATURING...

the hilarious Doug Key!

Doug Key is a stand-up comedian from New England who has been performing in comedy clubs and independent venues nationwide. His first comedy special, "Mother of the Year," was recently premiered on Mark Normand's YouTube channel and has received almost 100,000 views in less than a month. The album version of "Mother of the Year" debuted at #1 on the iTunes Comedy Charts, topped Amazon Prime's Best Sellers list, and is currently being streamed on various stations on Sirius XM radio. Key’s talent has been showcased on prominent platforms such as MTV, ABC, VH1, and Comedy Central Digital, and he even had a cameo in the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."

In 2019, he had the honor of headlining the iconic Caroline’s on Broadway in NYC after being recognized as one of their “Breakout Artists.” For more than a decade, Doug has been captivating audiences with his slightly irreverent yet charming dissection of personal anecdotes and contemporary society.

Doug Key recently performed internationally as the sole opening act for Mark Normand’s sold-out European theater tour. He has participated in esteemed comedy festivals, including the Boston Comedy Festival, Cape Fear Fest, Hell Yes Fest, Whale City Comedy Fest, and several times in the prestigious New York Comedy Festival. Doug has left an indelible mark in his home state as the founder of Rhode Island's first and only comedy festival, The Rogue Island Comedy Festival. This celebrated event, held biannually in the historic city of Newport every May and October, has become a fixture in the local community and beyond, attracting top comedic talents from far and wide.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

To support The Children’s Workshop Foundation in our 7th Annual Comedy 4 our Communities event, please consider any of the following:

TCW has the capability to serve over 675 students – most of whom come from families who are low income and qualify for a state childcare subsidy. Unfortunately, even with the support from the RI Department of Human Services (DHS), Rhode Island’s subsidized rates do not yet cover the cost of high-quality care. In fact, the cost gap between private pay full-time tuiton and the DHS rate is staggering.  As a non-profit organization, The Children’s Workshop relies on fundraising, grants and generous donations from our communities to cover this gap.

Hundreds of families rely on The Children’s Workshop, and we are driven to fulfill our mission of sparking confidence, joy and the love of learning in each child.
