The Children's Workshop will be hosting our annual Comedy 4 Our Communities fundraising event on July 18, 2024 at the Rhode Island Comedy Connection.

As our fourth TCW Workshop Way states (we play to learn)... we believe fun, laughter, and love are the essentials of being a lifelong learner - something that is not only applicable to our students; but adults alike. Every year, we host an adults-only, stand-up comedy show to provide our staff, TCW parents, industry partners, dedicated supporters and our community members a night to come together, relax, raise money for a great cause... and... belly laugh like a kid again!

All ticket sales, donations and sponsorships will directly benefit our 6 TCW schools, over 575 young students, and the communities we proudly serve. In addition to the comedy show, the night presents guests with the opportunity to take part in fun (prize winning) games, and a chance to win awesome raffle prizes!

Doug Key is quickly becoming one of the best new headliners in the country. His debut comedy special “Mother of the Year” presented by Mark Normand, recently premiered on Normand’s YouTube channel and has already amassed over 140K views and counting.  The audio album version of Key’s “Mother of the Year” debuted at #1 on the iTunes comedy charts and topped Amazon Prime’s Best Sellers List! Doug has also been featured on Comedy Central Digital, SiriusXM radio, MTV, VH1, ABC, and made a cameo in the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.

Key is fresh off a sold out European theater tour as the sole supporting act for renowned headliner Mark Normand! In 2019, Doug had the honor of headlining the world famous Caroline’s on Broadway in Times Square after being selected as one of their “Breakout Artists” of the year. Doug has performed in numerous festivals including the Boston Comedy Festival, Cape Fear Comedy Festival, Hell Yes Fest in New Orleans, Whale City Comedy Festival, and three times in the renowned New York Comedy Festival. Key is also the founder of the very first comedy festival in Rhode Island, The Rogue Island Comedy Festival, which takes place annually, every May and October in historic Newport, Rhode Island.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

To support The Children’s Workshop Foundation in our 7th Annual Comedy 4 our Communities event, please consider any of the following:

TCW has the capability to serve over 575 students – most of whom come from families who are low income and qualify for a state childcare subsidy. Unfortunately, even with the support from the RI Department of Human Services (DHS), Rhode Island’s subsidized rates do not yet cover the cost of high-quality care. In fact, the cost gap between private pay full-time tuiton and the DHS rate is staggering.  As a non-profit organization, The Children’s Workshop relies on fundraising, grants and generous donations from our communities to cover this gap.

Hundreds of families rely on The Children’s Workshop, and we are driven to fulfill our mission of sparking confidence, joy and the love of learning in each child.
